In the ever expanding VR gaming market, I Am Cat becomes outstanding and distinctive from the crowd, as the title provides both a rare and exciting chance for players to experience the world from a cat’s point of view. Created for VR by New Folder Games Ltd, this sandbox adventure game has gone viral in the gaming world since December 5, 2024.
One of the game’s strongest appeals is the sandbox feel and exploration. Granny’s house acts as an expansive and open play area, where players can move at their own pace. Everything in every room is a challenge and an opportunity. The living room may have a bookshelf with books you can pull off, the kitchen a larder to raid or pots and pans to play with. The entire mansion is free for the player to explore, from the attic to the basement.
The game is filled with quests that are made just for a cat’s point of view. These quests are varied, from simply tracking down a hidden toy to solving complex puzzle that cater to their feline instincts. In one quest, for instance, players may need to track a path of mouse-shaped footprints to unearth a hidden area. Completing these quests will not only fill you with a sense of achievement, but will also unlock new areas of the house for the player’s cat, and gifts, too.
I Am Cat contains an incredibly meticulous physics system that makes the game world appear alive. The objects in the house, vases, plants or books, and even balls, all interact naturally with the player. A swipe of the paw can send a ball skittering across the floor, or a suspenseful pounce can tip over a stack of books. It's a physics-based touch that serves to further draw you into the experience, and cause havoc in the house, if Granny isn't too unhappy you're ruining the place.
However, to prevent the gameplay from becoming monotonous, the game has the usual mini-games. These sub-missions are subtly brought into the background action. For instance, you will be able to play little football games with a tiny ball, or try your luck on the basketball ring by hitting the ball into it. There is also a classic cat-and-mouse game where players have to nab a virtual mouse that is scurrying about the house. These mini games are more than fun little diversions, and can help your cat to get better at kneading within the game.
Players may choose to play stealthy or bold. They can steal their way past Granny to see forbidden parts of the house or play pranks on her from close by. The decisions which you take while playing build up the personality of the cat and its relationship with Granny. A downright ornery cat could send Granny into a fury more frequently, while a well-behaved and friendly cat could win Granny’s affection. This idea of choice creates greater depth in the play, and each playthrough is not going to be like the last.
I Am Cat isn’t just a game, but an immersive experience that lets people see the world through a cat’s eyes. With its fun design, interesting mechanics and cute setting, there is something for everyone here, whether casual gamer or the hardcore VR fan. So if you want to relax by exploring a virtual house or challenge yourself by doing cat-themed quests and mini-games, you should definitely give I Am Cat a shot.
